Bold Aesthetic Apparel: Handmade in France
Vampire Sun Couture is clothing, accessories, and jewellery by me, Hev. In 2023, I decided I wanted to take my passion for daring design and bold dressing to a broader audience after creating exclusive pieces for years. The result was Vampire Sun.
A little about my creative journey… I grew up drawing, writing poetry, painting, singing and playing bass in a punk rock band, doing carpentry, cutting and dying my own hair, making my own clothes from scratch, and upcycling thrifted and hand-me-down clothes… anything I could to create. Luckily, I was always encouraged by my mom to push the limits and never conform. My upbringing in the East Coast United States punk rock and goth scene and time spent in Camden (London, not Jersey) as a baby punk was reflected in my earliest DIY-styled creations. I spent most of my early adult life in California trying to avoid soaking up the sun, but defintely soaking up the glamorous LA style. Later, I spent 8 years in Paris, travelling to Berlin often to visit my twin sister who lived there. I was heavily inspired by the aesthetic in both cities and that duality defintely influences my creations today.
I am the mastermind of all my own creations, from conception to the finished product. I very rarely follow patterns, but when I do they're almost always my own patterns that I've made through trial and error. I believe that a perfect piece of clothing is not meant to look like all the others, which is why I love having some asymmetry in clothing. As most of my designs are black, I enjoy playing with texture and weight of fabrics, and finding ways to add depth in designs by changing the feel of the clothing and the movement of it when worn. All of my pieces are handmade in my studio, in France, on my Singer sewing machine.
